Tis the season for giving and supermarket giant Asda is getting into the festive spirit by throwing a monster-sized Christmas party. Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records will be in attendance as Asda attempts to break the world record for the biggest-ever Christmas party.
No official world record exists for the most attendees at a Christmas party. However, in December 1979, a staggering 103,152 Boeing employees and their families attended a Christmas party in Seattle’s Kingdome. In 2017, Amazon hosted a party, also in Seattle, that saw 22,000 employees turn up.
Asda’s management team believes their Christmas party could see a seven-figure crowd, obliterating the current unofficial record.
“We have 145,000 dedicated Asda colleagues, who are all invited to our festive get-together,” stated Asda spokesperson William Jordan. “They serve a staggering 18 million customers each week. More than half of those customers use the self-serve tills, effectively doing our staff’s jobs for them, so we’re inviting those people too as they essentially free employees. If everyone turns up, we should see around 9.1 million party hat-sporting individuals attend our party extravaganza.”
Where Will the Massive Asda Christmas Party Take Place?

There is no venue anywhere in the world that could accommodate 9.1 million people, so where will the Asda Christmas bash be held? The Yorkshire Tribune contacted Asda House and asked where people should head and when they should do so.
“Most of our stores close at 7:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve, giving our colleagues the least amount of time possible with their families and loved ones. We have suggested that our store managers allow shoppers to re-enter the store from 8:00 p.m. on December 24, have a mince pie and a drink, pull a cracker, and have a jolly good time in our aisles.”
While some Asda employees are unhappy at having to stay behind unpaid on Christmas Eve, others are delighted to join shoppers in a festive knees-up.
Kerry Stones, a checkout operative, is one of the few Asda staff looking forward to the Xmas bash.
“I love a party,” said Stones. “I throw a party once or twice a year myself. Usually, it’s just me, a bottle of Hooch, a disco ball, and a couple of seat-sniffers hanging around in the background. Seeing loads of people having a great time will be wicked.”
Get Down to Your Local Store on December 24
Head to your local Asda store from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on December 24 and be part of the biggest Christmas party ever held. Be warned: Stores are likely to be rammed with people forgetting that Asda only shuts for one day and adhering to the Christmas tradition of buying 12 loaves and 28 bags of peanuts.
Ensure you have your Asda loyalty card so the analysts can harvest your shopping data and spending habits. If you’re not part of the loyalty scheme, you can sign up on the night.
