The Emirates Airlines air stewardess who featured in a breathtaking promotional video in August 2021 is still on top of the world’s tallest structure three years after filming. The brave Emirates cabin crew member is one of only a handful of people who have stood at the top of the Burj Khalifa, but nobody knows how to get her back down to Earth.
Emirates filmed the iconic advertisement as the COVID-19 pandemic was winding down. The British government had moved the United Arab Emirates (UAE) onto its amber list, allowing people to travel to and from the mega-rich, yet still backwards country.
The advertisement begins with the now-stricken cabin crew member displaying and swapping message boards like in the famous yet cringy Love Actually scene. The boards read, “Moving the UAE to the UK amber list has made us feel on top of the world. Fly Emirates. Fly Better.”
Once the final board is displayed, the camera pans out, revealing the air stewardess standing at the pinnacle of the Burj Kalifa, the world’s tallest structure. It overlooks Dubai, a popular destination for people living on council estates who want to look like they have money to burn and for drug dealers who want to show off on their Instagram channels.
Emirates Advertisement Was Not CGI
Many questioned whether the advertisement was created with CGI and other camera trickery. It was not. Climbing to the top of the building from the 160th floor took more than an hour. After securing her to the tower’s spire, the cameras rolled.
Sir Tim Clark, president of Emirates Airlines, said of the advertisement, “The calm and confidence of the cabin crew you see in the ad is an embodiment of our frontline team, serving travellers and ensuring their safety. We’re proud to be among a privileged few who have been allowed to film at the top of the Burj Khalifa by Emaar; and even prouder that we get to showcase our beautiful city, Dubai.”
Only a handful of famous people have stood at the top of the Burj Khalifa. They include Tom Cruise and the Crown Prince of the UAE. The building stands at a vertigo-inducing 829.8 meters, or more than half a mile. However, while midget Cruise and the Crown Prince safely returned to the ground, the Emirates cabin crew member is still a long way from home.
The Forgotten Women
The Yorkshire Tribune was stunned to discover no attempts have been made to bring the Emirates advertisement star down from her lofty perch. We reached out to Emirates Airlines to find out the reason for leaving the women tied to a spire half a mile above the ground.
“Why should we bring her back down? It is a woman, and everyone knows they have no rights because they’re second-class citizens here in the UAE. She was given the choice of being the star of one of our infamous Dubai Porta Potty parties or staying where she was. She decided to take her chances 829.8 meters above the ground,” a spokesperson for Emirates said.
Dubai Porta Potty parties have been exposed all over the internet. Super-rich Dubai residents pay Western women, usually the Instagram model types, a small fortune to travel to Dubai. Initially, they’re treated like goddesses but are then required to perform degrading acts such as pleasuring camels, with the most popular act allowing the rich Arabs to defecate in their mouths. The Yorkshire Tribune is not posting links to these Porta Potty parties; Google them at your own risk.
We tried contacting the stranded stewardess but were faced with fierce resistance from the tower’s security personnel. How she’s survived up there for three years is beyond us, and how long she can continue to stand at the top of the Burj Khalifa is anyone’s guess.
